SwingFest Tropic MiamiBeat Swingers Convention has been cancelled.  We just received this announcement from SwingFest.

Miami, FL. July 19, 2013, We regret to inform you that we have had to cancel this year’s Tropic MiamiBeat which was due to be held on Thursday, July 25 through Sunday, July 28, in Miami Beach. Due to contract revisions with the host hotel, we were unable to meet the terms and resolve the issues.

Despite great efforts to salvage this event, we had no other alternative but to cancel. We have reached out and communicated to all our attendees and vendors prior to this public notice of the event cancellation.

The following is a brief explanation of the cancellation:

After a successful 2012 event at the same host hotel, Tropic MiamiBeat was broadened to a complete resort take over. The budget for such an event was planned in accordance with the projected 2013 sales of room packages and event passes. Projections fell short.

The hotel then demanded that we renegotiate the contract. At this time the hotel increased the rate of all rooms, including the rooms that were already pre-booked, by over 30%, in addition reducing the event space to a smaller venue. While initial hotel deposits were made under the contract, the increased final deposit invoice was excessive; therefore, we were unable to meet the new demands placed upon us by the hotel.

While the majority of funds are retained with the hotel, we are currently in the process of refunding attendees and vendors.

DPT Note - We really appreciate those entrepreneurs who risk their time and capital to put on swingers conventions.  It is no easy task coordination hotels, entertainment, marketing and all of the logistics that go into staging such an event, and we give full credit to those people who have been able to do it successfully, year in and year out. It seem to us that if more conventions are added, there needs to be some coordination between the timing of these events.  This year we saw three major conventions in July: Naughty in N'awlins, SwingFest Tropic MiamiBeat, and Tampa Bay Escapes. Those events are being followed closely by Las Vegas Exchange.  Perhaps these events are too close together to allow each one to be successful.  We understand this is the third event that SwingFest Events has cancelled.  Hopefully, should the company decide to do another event, it actually happens.
