Robert and Torie are on the Azamara Journey cruising the Greek Islands on this fabulous swingers and lifestyle cruise. Here is their eye-witness report directly from the ship. After you read this article, you'll be wishing you were with them!
We dined with the gods. At least that is what it felt like as we found ourselves in Athens, Greece, dining al fresco at the Royal Olympic Hotel, with nothing less than the Acropolis looming above us.
We are on LLV’s (Luxury Lifestyle Vacations) Greek Island cruise and this has been one of those experiences in life for which mere words on a page can never do justice. We, along with our Dream Pleasure Tours clients, arrived in Athens prior to the sailing of the breathtaking Azamara Journey and were treated to first rate service from the start. The host hotel, the Royal Olympic, was stunning. There were also two additional overflow hotels, the Intercontinental Hotel and The Athenian Callirhoe, both within walking distance. 
In the days leading up to the cruise, we went with some DPT clients to enjoy all that Athens has to offer including a tour of the Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum, several other prominent ruins throughout the city and, of course, the culinary delights of the region.We returned back to the host hotel Saturday evening to enjoy a great meet and greet, where we were able to chat with many of our clients who were going on the cruise.
The morning of the ship’s departure, the organizers had buses waiting at each of the hotels - and we were off to the port. We boarded the ship and were astounded by the elegance of the ship. In place of the steel and neon that decorate so many of the larger cruise ships, we found ourselves surrounded by dark wood and crystal chandeliers. As elegant as this ship is, there was not a bit of stuffiness anywhere – this place was party central! The pool deck was full of partiers dancing away to the music the DJ was cranking out. As we bid Athens a fond farewell, we were all immersed in a whirlwind of fun and sexy get-togethers, from the social hour to the welcome reception. They even offered a seminar called “Sailing Swingers Style” for those couples who are new to lifestyle travel. The evening brought great entertainment and late night dancing and partying in the “Y-Not Lounge” – and speaking of partying, the “Sin Room” was hopping from 10pm to 4am. This ship was rockin’ in more ways than one!!
Our first port was in Santorini, Greece. Santorini is a volcanic island that was formed in 1450 BC. The town of Fira is at the top of the volcano and can be accessed by cable car, donkey or by walking the almost 600 steps to the top. We opted for the cable car. We and one of our client couplesrented quads and were off to explore! We saw the beautiful black sand beach with its soft volcanic sand, a myriad of little white churches with their distinctive blue domes, and beautiful cathedrals. We stopped along the way for some local fare including wonderful Santorini wine and Pseftokeftedes, a tomato dish native to the island. We headed back to the ship for an evening of music, entertainment, dancing and more ship rockin’!
After gliding through satin seas overnight, we sailed into Mykonos on Tuesday. Mykonos, according to Greek Mythology, was named after the half-god, half-man grandson of Apollo. We went with some of our clients to see the PanagiaParaportiani, a church made up of five separate chapels that were built between the 15th and 17th centuries, as well as the famous Mykonos windmills. These round windmills once worked with the force of the island’s brisk breezes to grind wheat into flour, but today some have been converted into houses and private museums. The Azamara Journey did not leave port until 5am on Wednesday, so many of guests stayed late into the night enjoying a nightlife scene in Mykonos that should not be missed!
Tomorrow we sail into one of the most archeological and religiously significant sites in the world –Kusadasi and Ephesus in Turkey.
